At Bluebird Counseling, we understand that beginning therapy can feel overwhelming. We’re here to make the process as welcoming and transparent as possible. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive.

What Insurance Do You Accept?
We accept a range of insurance plans and offer private pay options:
  • Medicaid (HUSKY)
  • Medicare (Traditional and Managed Care products)
  • Anthem
  • Cigna
  • Optum (Includes ConnectiCare, UnitedHealthcare, and Oxford)
  • Private Pay options available upon request

If you’re unsure whether your plan is covered, we’re happy to verify your benefits and discuss payment options.

What Should I Expect at My First Appointment?
Your first session is focused on building rapport and gathering information in a safe, supportive environment.
  • During your initial session, your therapist will:
  • Listen to what brings you to therapy
  • Ask questions about your current situation and personal history
  • Explore your goals and what you hope to achieve
  • Answer any questions you have about the therapy process

Sessions typically run 50–60 minutes. While your therapist will guide the conversation, you’re always in control of what you choose to share and how quickly you move forward.

Together, you will:
  • Develop an initial plan for your therapy
  • Discuss recommended session frequency
  • Schedule your next appointment
  • Address any concerns or questions

There’s no wrong way to begin therapy. Whether you’re ready to dive in or need time to feel comfortable, we’ll meet you where you are—with compassion and care.
